Primera Lectura: Lectura del libro de la Sabiduría
Suplique a Dios, y me concedió prudencia; le pedi espíritu de de sabiduría, y me lo dio. La preferí a los cetros y los tronos; en comparación con ella, tuve en nada la riqueza. Ninguna piedra preciosa me pareció igual a ella, pues frente a ella todo el oro es cómo un puñado de arena, y la plata vale tanto como el barro. La ame mas que a la salud y a la belleza; la preferí a la luz del día, porque su brillo no se apaga. Con ella me vinieron a la vez todos los bienes, pues me trajo incalculables riquezas.

I begged god, and he granted me prudence; I asked him for the spirit of wisdom, and he gave it to me. I preferred her to scepters and thrones; Compared to her, I had no wealth at all. No precious stone seemed equal to her, because in front of her all gold is like a handful of sand, and silver is worth as much as clay. I loved her more than health and beauty; I preferred it in daylight, because its brightness does not fade. With her came all the goods at the same time, because she brought me incalculable wealthiness.
